Deven Kane is a global investment management attorney and a corporate transactions attorney with KPPB LAW. He has advised investment managers, fund advisors, business organizations and their owners, including entrepreneurs and startups, for more than two decades.
His investment management practice includes counseling clients on the ever-changing issues related to private equity placements, fund management, securities laws, and offshore fund formation. He helps structure private placement memorandums (PPMs) and form hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and various feeder fund structures. He also advises on securities laws and regulatory/compliance issues for investment funds, hedge funds, fund-of-funds, feeders, offshore funds, and other pooled investment vehicles with fund formation, fundraising, acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings.
Deven’s corporate client work focuses on contracts, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial lending and loan transactions, commercial leases, employment transactions and guiding business owners in all aspects of managing their business and vendor relationships including preparation of operating agreements, licensing agreements, shareholder agreements and buy-sell agreements.
Before joining KPPB LAW in 2022, Deven led his own investment management and corporate transactions practice in Chicago for more than a decade. He has previously served as an attorney with Altheimer & Gray, and with Clingen Callow & McLean, LLC. Prior to his legal career, Deven was an auditor with IBM’s internal auditing group.
Deven earned his law degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Law where he received a Harno Scholarship and graduated cum laude. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance and accounting from Texas A&M University where he was a Lechner Fellow. During his undergraduate studies he was active in moot court, L.E.G.A.L.S., Hindu Student Council and Aggie Leaders of Tomorrow.
He is a former board member and officer of the Indian American Bar Association of Chicago. Deven is the past-president and a current board member of the National Indo America Museum and the second vice president and board member of the Chicago Coin Club.
Deven was born in Chicagoland and raised near Mumbai. He is fluent in Hindi and Marathi and has completed at least two marathons in the U.S and internationally each year since 2020. Deven is based in Chicago.
